This monograph presents the results of a comprehensive analysis of the establishment of monetary and banking systems in the Central Eurasian countries and their integration into the global monetary and financial system as we know it today. It takes a close look at the stages in development of the national currencies in the context of the growing challenges of globalization and the regional initiatives being put forward. Particular attention is focused on the influence of the leading world currencies on the appearance of national currencies in the Central Eurasian countries and on the possibilities of reinstating the ruble zone and creating a Central Eurasian Currency Union.
