In 2006, Kazakhstan’s multi-vector orientation as an integral feature of its foreign policy not only proved its expediency and viability, but also demonstrated that this was the only way to survive in contemporary geopolitics. During the year, the country continued to follow a balanced foreign policy course, taking into account both its own interests and the dynamics of world development, including regional.

The following long-term foreign policy goals, which largely defined Kazakhstan’s actions on the international arena, can be designated as follows: first, maintaining balanced relations with the geopolitical centers of influence in the region—the Russian Federation, the PRC, the U.S., and the EU; second, ensuring national security by cooperating with the SCO, CSTO, and NATO; third, pursuing an active integration policy and economic interaction in the EurAsEC and CIS. The tasks of the republic’s foreign policy in 2006 were as follows: diplomatic implementation of the Strategy of Kazakhstan Joining the World’s 50 Most Competitive States declared by Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbaev, enforcement of the republic’s active role on the international arena, and achievement of important political goals—chairmanship in the OSCE in 2009 and continuing the talks on WTO membership.

The geopolitical priorities focused on developing alliance relations with Russia, good neighborly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation with China, and strategic partnership with the U.S. What is………….
